Peterborough

Peterborough is a city in eastern England (about two hours north of London by car, one hour if by train). It’s known for the 12th- and 13th-century Peterborough Cathedral, with its Gothic facade. In a former hospital building, the Peterborough Museum has a reconstructed Victorian operating theatre, plus fossils and paintings. Flag Fen Archaeology Park features Bronze Age village and causeway remains. Nene Park is home to woodlands, footpaths and Ferry Meadows recreation area. - Google

My nomadic journey had a prolonged layover in Peterborough, England. Why Peterborough? Well, I had two very close, very genuine friends who have humbly and unconditionally accepted me into their flat while I am on this adventure. They have been a very healing part of my journey. I would also like to take a moment to talk about their son, Kobe. He lights up every room he chooses to stroll into. In 1543, Nicolaus Copernicus detailed his radical theory of the Universe in which the Earth, along with the other planets, rotated around the Sun. It is known fact, now in the 21st century, that the Earth, along with the other planets, revolve around Kobe. He is a majestic, short-hair domestic feline of the purest breed and quality. He has graciously allowed me to enter his orbit.

Peterborough has been a quaint escape from reality. It has been an international stepping stone in all the best ways. The culture is similar to what you might experience in the States. It is similar paced, standoffish at times, but also friendly, respectful, and generally positives vibes. Being in Peterborough is like being in a somewhat modernized version of old country. English natives talk about Peterborough the way I talk about my hometown. I've hear comments such as, "Why Peterborough?, " oh, Peterborough, that's an interesting choice," and "that's bit uh shithole innit?" In their defense, it's about perspective. Just like this whole journey. I have lived in United States, specifically, Ohio, my whole life. You wander out of Ohio and the whole world is an upgrade at times. To me, Peterborough represents a place outside the world I've lived my entire life. It could be in the middle of nowhere (it is) in Russia or North Korea, it's new and fresh to me, so I accept it for that. As a foreigner, I am able to appreciate the locale, the architecture, the complexity and nature of Peterborough natives that have shown me kindness, and in a way, the epitome of what England represents. I shan't forget that my adventure began in Peterborough, England, and the road will go ever on...
